Dear Community,
It is with mixed emotions that I share the retirement of Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) Board Chair, David O’Brien, effective May 31, 2024.
O’Brien is a dedicated resident of Highlands East, where prior to his retirement, held positions as Global Head, Cities Centre of Excellence at KPMG LLP, President and Chief Executive Officer of Toronto Hydro Corporation, Deputy Minister for the Ontario Ministry of Energy, as well as City Manager for the Corporation of the City of Mississauga, City of Ottawa, City of Gloucester, City of Sudbury and Chief Administrative Officer for the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton.
David’s board participation is extensive and includes the Boards of the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and OMERS. Locally, David was Chair of the Board of Abbey Gardens and member of the Board of the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust. He currently serves as the Chair of the board of the Haliburton County Public Library and as a Board Member for the Haliburton County Development Corporation.
During his extensive time with HHHS, David has brought a deep understanding of organizational development, and a nuanced understanding of the region.
“David’s passion and care for the Highlands has been felt far and wide during his tenure at HHHS. His people-first approach and passion for healthcare will be deeply missed on our Board. David, from all of us at HHHS, thank you for your trust, leadership, and dedication. You will be missed!”
-Veronica Nelson, President & CEO HHHS
At the May 30th Board Meeting, Irene Odell HHHS Board Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Chair of Finance, Resources and Audit Committee was appointed as Board Chair.
Many thanks to Mr. O’Brien for his incredible years of volunteer service and contributions to HHHS and welcome Irene Odell to her new role.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Veronica Nelson
