What we do:
The goal of physiotherapy is to maintain, restore and maximize strength, function, movement and overall well-being.
As primary health care professionals, physiotherapists (also known as PTs or physical therapists) combine in-depth knowledge of how the body works with specialized hands-on clinical skills to assess and diagnose acute and chronic injuries, illnesses and conditions. With your diagnosis in mind, physiotherapists can work with you to create a tailored, client-centred treatment plan which may include:
- Therapeutic exercise
- Functional activity training/re-training
- Work and occupational re-training and return to work planning (including WSIB assessments/reassessments/treatment)
- Education on pain management
- Modalities including hot/cold packs, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) and ultrasound
- Joint mobilization
- Early/functional mobilization, O2 titration, discharge planning for acute care patients
Physiotherapy Assistants (PTAs) are trained to assist with the provision of physiotherapy services under the direction and supervision of a registered physiotherapist.
The Rehab Department is staffed by three full-time physiotherapists and one full time physiotherapy assistant. Physiotherapy services are provided to both in-patients (acute care) and out-patients (clients of the physiotherapy clinic).
Out-patient physiotherapy services are offered primarily at the Haliburton site (5 days/week) and at the Minden site (2 days/week). In-patient physiotherapy services are only available to patients of the Haliburton Hospital Acute Care Unit.
How To Access Physiotherapy Services; Fees
A referral from your doctor or nurse practitioner is required to access out-patient physiotherapy services. Referrals may be submitted in person or faxed to the number below. After we receive your referral, you will be placed on the wait list, with higher priority given to clients with acute conditions.
Physiotherapy services are free of charge. Equipment (e.g. therabands) is available for purchase from the Physiotherapy Department for a nominal fee.
