Dear Community,
On September 21, 2024, the Haliburton Pine Ridge District Health Unit declared Highland Wood Long Term Care Home to be in an Unknown Respiratory Outbreak. Currently, eight (8) residents are showing respiratory symptoms. All symptomatic residents have been isolated to their rooms and placed on contact/droplet precautions.
Our Highland Wood team is working diligently to reduce the spread of this infection. Enhanced Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is being used by staff to reduce the risk of transmission, and any residents affected by the outbreak are being isolated in their rooms to prevent any further spread of the virus. In addition, laboratory testing is being completed on symptomatic residents, and enhanced cleaning measures have also been put into place. Please note that the family/Power of Attorney (POA) of all residents affected by the outbreak have been contacted by our nursing team.
At this time, non-urgent visiting is on pause at Highland Wood and essential visitors are asked to follow appropriate IPAC procedures at all times. Please be reminded of the importance of staying home if ill and the importance of washing hands or using HHHS-supplied hand sanitizer. Let’s work together to keep everyone safe.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Lauren Ernst, Communications and Employee Experience Lead at lernst@hhhs.ca any time.
A HUGE thank you to the team for all that they do to support our residents, families, and team.
Your professionalism and expertise is second to none, and directly impacts the health and wellbeing of our community!
Thanks so much,
Jennifer Burns West
